Coming home today is a flyer for our upcoming Book Fair. We will visit the book fair as a class on Wednesday. The PTO is sponsoring a small breakfast of pastries, fruit and juice on Thursday morning from 7:30-9:00 in the cafeteria. This is an opportunity to visit Navigator, socialize at breakfast, and shop the book fair.
Language Arts
Also coming home today is a student/parent newsletter about our first lesson from our Journeys reading curriculum. Here you will find vocabulary words, spelling words and learning targets for the next two weeks. Our usual pattern is to take two weeks per lesson. The first week of the we have a comprehension test on Thursday and a spelling test on Friday. The second week of the lesson we have assessments on grammar and vocabulary. Many resources for practicing at home are on our Google Classroom. Students need to know their PCS school login to access Google Classroom. A note with more information will be sent home next week.
Independent Reading
On Monday, students will begin using a form to record their reading habits. The form asks for students to record pages and minutes read both at home and at school. Please monitor your child’s book selection and encourage 15-20 min of reading at home daily. The reading record will be collected on Friday.
Math
In the students’ homework folder, they should have a sheet discussing an overview of policies and procedures for 5th grade math. Watch for a similar sheet coming home next week for science. Please contact Mrs. McHugh if you have any questions.
Camp Fundraiser
Monday is the start of the flower bulb fundraiser for 5th grade camp. Students who sell flower bulbs can make money toward their camp account, so they will have less to pay when camp rolls around in the spring. Look for more information to come home on Monday.
M-STEP Reports
Parent reports from the 4th grade M-STEP test in the spring are included in papers going home today. Please keep an eye out for them.
Reminders
A few families have not returned the parent information sheet that went home last week. We know it is a busy time. We appreciate your taking the time to provide us with more information about your child. We really have enjoyed getting to know them better these last two weeks.
Planner
Thank you for signing the planner each night. As we begin to dive into our curriculum students will begin to have more homework. We hope you are finding it helpful to utilize the planner, our team website (5thgradewonder.weebly.com) and MISTAR to find out what is happening at school.
