Conferences
We were happy to visit with many of our families at conferences this week. Our students were very excited to share their work. If you were not able to attend, please look for a conference folder that was sent home today. Please have your student-led conference at home, and then return the parent reflection sheet with your signature.
Language Arts
The parent newsletter for Lesson 5 was sent home today. We will have spelling and vocabulary tests on Friday, November 15. We will not have a grammar test for this lesson. Lesson 5 will only be a week. Lesson 6 will start on Monday, November 18.
Social Studies
We are beginning chapter 6 on the first colonial settlements. We will have a test on this chapter on Tuesday, November 19.
Math
Yesterday I handed out log in sheets for xtramath.com, a great website that helps kids learn their multiplication and division math facts. Please have your kids log in to this site. It only takes 6-10 minutes of time and is great repetitive practice to make those math facts more fluent. I am working on an incentive plan involving ice cream sundaes, but more will come on that later.
Also, we will be having our first quiz on unit 2 on Friday, November 14th. It will cover naming decimals, writing fractions as decimals, expanded form for decimals, and comparing decimals. There will be a practice quiz coming home prior to the actual quiz.
Canned Food Drive
Navigator is teaming up with Pathfinder to collect canned goods for senior citizens in our community who are short on food. Please send in non-expired canned goods by December 3rd to be included in our count. If we have the most canned food items, our team could win a nitrogen ice cream party. As a side note, we will be doing a STEM activity right before Thanksgiving where each child will need to have a canned good.
